Tax rates are the percentages that appear on invoices, estimates, receipts, and credit notes — VAT, GST, sales tax, or any other rate your jurisdictions use.

  1. Open Settings > Sales Tax.
  2. Click Add Tax Rate.
  3. Fill in:
  • Name — how the rate is identified (e.g. "VAT Standard 20%", "GST 5%", "Zero Rated").
  • Rate — the percentage value (e.g. 20 for 20%, 0 for zero-rated).
  • Description — optional context shown on the rate row.
  1. Click Save.

The new rate is available in the line-item tax dropdown on every invoicing document.

To set a default tax rate (pre-selected when adding new line items), open the rate and toggle default. Only one rate can be the default at a time.

Tip: Configure a zero rate (0%) and an exempt rate so users can explicitly mark lines as zero-rated or exempt rather than leaving the tax field blank — it makes the Tax Summary report much cleaner.

Note: Tax rates can be archived but not deleted once used on a document — archiving hides them from new documents while preserving historical correctness.
