Every invoicing document — invoice, estimate, receipt, credit note — has its own number sequence with a configurable prefix and starting number. Set yours to match your firm's accounting conventions before issuing your first document.

  1. Open Settings > Invoicing, or click Set Prefix next to the number field when creating an invoice for the first time.
  2. For each document type configure:
  • Prefix — the literal text that appears before the number (e.g. INV-, EST-, RCT-, CN-).
  • Starting number — the number to use for the next document (e.g. 00001).
  • Automatically add the number — when on, the platform auto-assigns the next number on save. When off, you set the number manually.
  • Numbering modeSequential (one continuous series organisation-wide) or Client-linked (a separate sequence per client).
  1. Click Save.

The next document of that type uses the prefix you configured and the starting number, incrementing by one for each subsequent document.

Tip: Sequential numbering keeps an unbroken series across the firm — usually preferred for audit and tax authorities. Client-linked numbering can be helpful for firms billing a small number of large clients with their own sub-series.

Note: Once a document has been issued, the platform protects the integrity of the sequence — you cannot retroactively change the prefix or insert numbers. Plan the format you want before going live with billing.
