Voiding cancels an invoice while preserving its record for audit. Use it when an invoice was issued in error — wrong client, wrong amount, duplicate — and you want to remove it from outstanding balances without deleting the historical entry.

  1. Open the invoice.
  2. Click the action menu (three-dot icon) and choose Void Invoice.
  3. Confirm the action.

Important: An invoice cannot be voided if it has receipts or credit notes applied to it. Delete those first, then void the invoice.

What happens after voiding:

  • The invoice's status changes to Void.
  • It is excluded from outstanding balance, revenue, and aging calculations.
  • It still appears in the invoices list (marked as voided) for audit purposes — you can filter it out.
  • The invoice number is preserved and is not reused.
  • Time entries and expenses that were billed on the voided invoice return to unbilled so they can be billed again on a new invoice.

Tip: If you only need to write off part of an invoice (e.g. a discount or correction), issue a credit note rather than voiding — credit notes preserve the original invoice and provide a cleaner audit trail.
